How to Apply for the DOST Scholarship

Grade 12 students, there is a college scholarship opportunities with the Department of Science and Technology for 2021. 

Science and Technology Undergraduate Scholarships

There are two types of DOST scholarships available: DOST RA 7687 and DOST SEI – MERIT Scholarship Program.

S & T Scholarship RA 7687

Republic Act No. 7687, also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994” provides for scholarships to talented and deserving students whose families’ socio-economic status does not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators.

**If your family’s income is higher than the value set for RA 7687, then it will be the Merit Scholarship that you will apply for.

RA 7867 Eligibility Requirements

You must be a Natural-born Filipino citizen;

You must be a talented and deserving student who belongs to a family whose
socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indicators;

You must be a member of the senior high school STEM Strand graduating class; OR
a Member of the top 5% of the senior high school NON-STEM Strand graduating class;

You must be a resident of the municipality for the last 4 years as attested by the barangay;

You must have good moral character and in good health;

You must pass the the 2021 S&T Undergraduate Scholarship Examination which will be conducted this coming October 2019.

Qualifiers of DOST RA 7687 Scholarship must pursue priority fields of study in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.

DOST SEI – MERIT Scholarship Program

The DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program, formerly known as the NSDB or NSTA Scholarship under RA No. 2067, is awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology.

SEI – Merit Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

Natural-born Filipino citizen;

You must be a member of the senior high school STEM Strand graduating class; OR
Member of the top 5% of the senior high school NON-STEM Strand
graduating class;

You must have good moral character and in good health; and
You must pass the 2021 S&T Undergraduate Scholarship Examination

*Under the Merit Scholarship there is no family income limitation.

DOST SCHOLARS MAY ENROLL IN THESE INSTITUTIONS

State Universities and Colleges (SUC)

CHED identified Centers of Excellence (COE) or Centers of Development (COD) for the S&T programs covered under the DOST – SEI Undergraduate Scholarships

Institutions with FAAP Level III Accreditation for the S&T programs covered under the DOST – SEI Undergraduate Scholarships

Question: Is it required for DOST scholars to render service in the country upon graduation? YES.

The rule is that upon completion of the S&T program, the scholar-graduate shall render return service in the country on a full-time basis, preferably in his/her home region, and preferably along his/her field of specialization, for a minimum period equivalent to the length of time he/she enjoyed the scholarship.

DOST SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS AND PRIVILEGES

Dost scholars will enjoy these benefits while under the scholarship program:

• Tuition and other school fees P40,000 per academic year.

• Book Allowance P10,000 per year.

• Monthy Living Allowance of P7,000.

• MS/PE Uniform Allowance P1,000 on the first semester of the first year.

• Graduation Clothing Allowance of P1,000.

• Transportation Allowance for those studying out of their home province will be given 1 economy round-trip ticket.

• Group Accident Insurance Premium

*Summer Allowance (if required by the curriculum).

DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS

NOTE: Submit duly accomplished scholarship application form and all required documents in one long brown envelop!

For those who are eligible to apply, there are required documents namely:

1. Duly accomplished Application Forms

Form A – Personal Information

Form B – Household Information Questionnaire (for RA 7687 Applicants only)

Form C – Certificate of Good Moral Character

Form D – Certification of Good Health

Form E1 – Principal’s Certification (For Applicant from the STEM Strand)

Form E2 – Principal’s Certification (For Applicant from the NON-STEM Strand)

Form F – Certificate of Residency (For RA 7687 Applicants only)

Form G – Parent’s Certification (If no pending application for immigration)

Form H – Applicant’s Certification

Form I – Signed Declaration by Applicant and the Parent/s/Legal Guardian

2. Two recent (1″ x 1″) pictures

3. Photocopy of Birth Certificate

4. Parent/s 2018 Income Tax Return OR W2 OR Employment Contract for OFW OR BIR Certificate of Exemption for Filing of ITR /

5. Affidavit of guardianship (If with legal guardian)

6. Certificate of scholarship in high school (If applicable

7. High School Statement of Account (If applicable)

Additional requirements if you are applying for RA 7687:

*Municipal or Barangay Certificate of Indigency (for RA 7687 Applicants only)
*Electric Bills for 3 consecutive months in 2019 (for RA 7687 Applicants)

For those who will pass complete requirement, you will be received a DOST TEST PERMIT and a PRIMER via email estimated a week after your submission.

WHERE TO GET and SUBMIT THE DOST SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORM

There are four options to get the DOST Application form and these are:

1. Science Education Institue (SEI)

2. DOST Regional Offices

3. Provincial Science and Technology Centers

4. Online Download at DOST website

Submit the form in DOST Regional Offices, SEI, or Provincial Science and Technology Centers. Make sure that the scholarship application for 2021 DOST is completely filled-up before you submit the same and you have complete documents.

There is no test fee is you are applying for the RA 7687 Scholarship. If you are applying for the SEI-Merit scholarship there is a test fee of P200.

    I graduated last April 2019 from SHS, however, I decided not to enter college this year. Can I still take the scholarship exam given the fact that I haven’t earned any credits in any Undergraduate course?
