GUIDE: How to BLOCK MAC Address in PLDT WIFI Modem

This is how to block particular MAC address from connecting to your PLDT HOMEDSL WIFI or modem.

The internet speed of our PLDT WIFI modem became so slow that I had to again check if there are unauthorized connections. A couple of months back, I had to change the name and password of our PLDT WIFI following these steps to stop leechers and ISP hackers from connecting to our modem.

At that time, I suspected that our PLDT modem was hacked hence, the unauthorized connections, which resulted to turtle-speed. Things got back to normal after I successfully accessed PLDT admin and updated our HomeDSL name and password.

Today, when I checked the Active Clients list, I can see one unauthorized MAC Address so I googled for ways on how to block the MAC address of this gadget so it will not be able to connect again to our WIFI. These are steps, in case you want to also block certain MAC addresses from connecting to your PLDT WIFI modem.

How to Block PLDT HOMEDSL WIFI Users through MAC Address

First step, you need to login to PLDT WIFI admin page. Go to http://192.168.1.1/ Use these credentials to access PLDT Admin.

Username: adminpldt

Password: 1234567890

Second step, on the navigation bar click on “SETUP” then “WLAN” then “BASIC” and finally, click on “SHOW ACTIVE CLIENTS”.

This way you scan the list of active clients and will be able to identify if there are MAC addresses that you don’t recognize from the list.

Show Active Clients PLDT HomeDSL

**Before you continue with the MAC blocking process, you need to know first all the MAC addresses of all gadgets that is authorized to use your PLDT WIFI. This is so that you won’t accidentally block the mac address of a legit user.

We are a three-person-household with 3 laptops, 3 smart phones, and 1 tablet. We have a list of our MAC Addresses for our reference.

This is a sample table of ACTIVE WIRELESS CLIENTS currently using our PLDT HomeDSL

Show PLDT HomeDSL Active Wireless Client Table

Earlier, I saw one MAC Address using our wifi access that I know does not belong to us, therefore, it’s connecting without authorization. I decided to block it.

*Each gadget has a unique MAC address.

Third step, Once you have identified the MAC address that you want to block, go back to WLAN settings. Then click “Access Control List”. Check our screenshot guide.

WLAN Access Control List

The Wireless Access Control page will load. In here, you can now select the setting that you prefer, there are 3 options:

  • Disable – choose this if you want things as in, i.e. no blocking, no specified allowed users
  • Deny Listed – choose this if you want to prevent access by identified MAC address.
  • Allow Listed – choose this if you will allow certain gadgets to connect to your wifi.

From PLDT “If you choose ‘Allowed Listed’, only those clients whose wireless MAC addresses are in the access control list will be able to connect to your Access Point. When ‘Deny Listed’ is selected, these wireless clients on the list will not be able to connect the Access Point.”

For our blocking purposes, I’ve chosen the “Deny Listed” option.

Block MAC Address from accessing WIFI

Fourth step, Select the option you prefer, and then click on “Apply Changes”. Wait for about 15 seconds for the Wireless modem to update the settings.

Fifth step, on the MAC Address field enter the MAC Address you want to block; again you can get this from the List of Active Wireless Clients.

Enter the MAC Address without the “:” in between numbers.

Example the MAC Address is “01:e2:f3:gh:i5:67”, you will enter this on the blank field as “01e2f3ghi567’.

If you will enter with the colon in between digits, it will error when you click “add”.

Sixth step, After correctly entering the MAC address that you want to block, click “Add”.

Deny MAC Address Wireless Access Control Mode

Wait for about 15 to 20 seconds again for the WLAN settings to refresh. Once done, the page will load and you can see the successfully blocked MAC address under the Current Access Control List.

MAC ADDRESS BLOCKING VALIDATION

To confirm that you have successfully block unauthorized gadgets from connecting to your WIFI, go back to the Active Wireless Client Table; if you did things right, you won’t be seeing the MAC address you’ve just blocked.

PLDT HomeDSL dashboard >> SETUP >> WLAN >> BASIC >> Show Active Clients

Now, just in case you mistakenly blocked a MAC address, you can reverse it simply by going back to the Wireless Account Control page, scroll down to “current access control list”. Then click “Select” beside the MAC address you want to unblock, then click the “Delete Selected” button. The page will again refresh for a few second to update settings. The blocked MAC will be unblocked.

Blocked MAC Address in PLDT HomeDSL wifi modem

Finally, Don’t forget to save the new configurations of your PLDT modem by going to the main dashboard and clicking “SAVE” in the sidebar where it says “Attention config is modified to make it effective forever save’.

Change Wifi Name and Password PLDT

You need to do this ‘saving’ if you change or update any settings for your PLDT WIFI.

If you fail to do this, the setting will revert back to its old setup after you turn-off your wifi modem. So save at root level. All is well from then on!

Hope this blocking MAC address tutorial guide helps you!

There are multiple areas to apply MAC address filter, in my experience I had already configured three modems in 11 years, they all look very different and needs to get used to every time you get a new one, the newer models like 2016+ already has the best encryption type selected at default, so you just need to select a complex password with numbers like 1lln3s5 suppose to be illness, so u just need to be creative.

Next is, as said in this topic, MAC address Accept Filter or White Filter, is the best security, cause even tho if they somehow know or hacked into your wifi they can’t get any ISP cause they’re not in the list.

Also, name who owns that MAC address, like F4:1B:A1:6B:C7:61 is Aunt Mae’s iphone 6, F4:1B:A1:6B:C7:55 is Aunt Mae’s Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, so incase if the device is retired, sold, given away to someone unauthorized

Hi Jamaica, it might be best to contact 172 for PLDT Broadband for assistance. Also, you might want to change your wifi name or password, or both, this is another way to prevent unauthorized access to your PLDT DSL modem.

Hello, how to ‘refresh’ the wifi connectivity of each gadget? Like a visiting friend asked for your wifi password and the friend leaves your house? There is a tendency that the gadget will still identify our wifi and will automatically connected.

Its not what I’m asking about, I was talking about the one function that can block the unauthorized user when I get to log in in the WiFi modem and there I cannot see the Mac filtering section.

Hi Wowie, we are suspecting that you are using the limited admin dashboard without the full functionalities; PLDT has updated the modem-admin-access due to some issue since a few months back. That’s why we referred you to check the other post which discusses more about accessing the modem via full admin rights. You will not be able to block MAC addresses, if you can’t access the full admin dashboard.
