PHLPost: Packages Valued 10K Pesos and below are now TAX-FREE

PHLPost has some great news for those who will receive personal packages via the Philippine Postal Corporation. Personal packages worth 10K Pesos and below are now TAX-FREE!!!

PHLPost Tax Free packages 10K and below value

This is a great timing for Filipinos who are anticipating love ones from abroad to send packages and gifts for the Christmas holidays. A personal package received via Philpost are now FREE of taxes charge if said package or parcel is valued at P10,000 and below.

This new provision is included in the New Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) signed into law as Republic Act (RA) 10863. Another great news brought about by the CMTA is about the Tax-free Balikbayan Boxes.

Please be reminded that only those personal packages or parcels coming from abroad that passes through PHLPost which has been assessed with customs duties and taxes valued at P10,000 and below are tax exempt.

This new directive is seen to greatly benefit the many Filipinos who sends and receives packages via the postal service.

What will happen when you receive foreign mails, parcels, package from abroad? Your package will still be subjected to customs examination, duties, taxes and other fees. Now, if the custom officer / PHLPost officer assess your package to be 10K or below, you will enjoy tax-exempt status. BUT if the package was assessed to have value OVER 10,000 pesos, you will be required to pay the corresponding tax.

This new order will take effect beginning October 25, 2016.
