OFW ID Card Benefits | Apply to Get One Once Implemented

There will be a unified identification card system for Overseas Filipino Workers, as announced by the Duterte Administration this 2017.

This move was born out of concern for the welfare and well-being of OFWs. The main aim of which is to improve the experience of OFWs when transacting with government branches.

The advantages of this OFW ID when it’s fully implemented are many, including faster transaction with government offices like OWWA, POEA, DFA, PRC, DOLE, etc. Overseas workers will be able to request for their records from government agencies and private offices easier using their unique ID under the iDOLE-OFW Identification Card System.

OFW ID Card Benefits Apply

This OFW ID is also projected to become an ATM or Debit card for the OFW bank, as well as allowed for use on the MRT and LRT like a regular beep card which can be loaded as needed.

*The OFW ID can also be used as official ID acceptable to open bank accounts, investment accounts, etc.

The iDOLE-OFW Identification Card System will also create an online portal (website and mobile app) so OFWs who wishes to update their official records, request for government documents, etc can do so even while abroad. No need to physically go to these offices as one can just access the website or the mobile app.

Example: Updating OWWA membership records, applying to the scholarship available for OWWA members, applying for TESDA courses, etc.

How to Apply and Get the OFW ID CARD?

Filipinos who are working abroad and those who plan to find jobs overseas, are now asking how to apply for the OFW ID Card and what are the requirements to be submitted.

As of the time of writing, the government is still ironing out the technicalities as well as setting up the rules on how to get the OFW ID cards. We will be updating this post on iSensey once the step by step procedure to get OFW ID is available. Visit this article again, or Like and Follow iSensey on Facebook to get the update.

Watch this interview with OWWA Admin Hans Leo Cacdac by CNN Philippines wherein he talks about the ID Card System for OFWs.

As of today, the iDOLE officers are still evaluating what the application process will be, whether it’s a face to face counter transaction to apply, or if the OFW can just sign up and apply virtually via online website or app. Another thing the administration is still debating about is whether or not the OFW ID cards should be physically claimed by the applicant, or if the government can just send the ID via mail, the way credit card companies does.

Whatever the final process of application and getting the actual OFW ID card will be, one thing is sure, once this is effective and implemented, this is a great service for our Overseas Filipino Workers.

Note: The OFW ID card is FREE of charge, you just need to comply with all requirements. Apply right away once rolled-out to enjoy the benefits.

UPDATE July 4, 2017

DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced through an interview with PCOO Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson that the OFW ID will be available by end of July 2017. This iDOLE-OFW Identification Card will replaced the OEC. Meaning, OFWs will no longer need to get OEC. Our Overseas Filipino Workers will be given instead the OFW ID. The IDs will be claim though the POEA, this is Free, no charge.

We will keep you updated if matutuloy na talagang sa end of July meron ng ID para sa mga OFWs natin.

Also sa mga nasa ibang bansa na ngayon na gustong kumuha din ng ID, once we have more info on how you can file and claim ID, we will update this post agad para sa inpormasyon niyo.

Visit iSensey again as we will update this post when relevant details are revealed to the public.

Baka po sa August di pa ready ang IRR ng OFW ID Card. Before po kayo uwi, make sure na updated yung records niyo sa BM Online or Balik Manggagawa Program para po makakuha kayo ng OEC exemption.

    Good Day!

We were told that our school employer will not be allowed to directly hire Filipino teachers because they have reached the maximum limit for direct hire workers. POEA requires us to have an agency to process our application for OEC. With this new OEC ID will this make our processing easier without going through an agency? Or the limited number of direct hire will still be implemented? Please advise.

Hi Dominique, the complete implementing guidelines for the OFW ID is still not out. Maybe, your concern will be address when the implementing rules are made known. Please watch out for updates.

    • iSensey says

      July 30, 2017 at 5:41 pm

Wala pa din po. Based sa advisory ng POEA, pag wala pa ang iDOLE ID, the OFW is required to submit the OEC or OEC exemption.
