NBI Clearance Online Application – Important Info

NBI clearance online registration and application is easy, but sometimes there are issues you encounter during and after the process.

How to Apply for NBI Clearance Online and Schedule an Appointment

Filing for NBI Clearance will be done online, via website. Beginning 2017, the National Bureau of Investigation implements the “No Appointment, No Entry” policy on their offices.

All NBI Clearance applicants are advised to register online and secure their appointment day in advance.

So make sure if you need to apply for clearance for whatever purpose, for use in local employment or to work abroad or as a supplemental ID in applying for passport, etc, make sure that you will register an account with them.

This is the NBI clearance registration link. You will need to indicate if it is your first time to apply for clearance or renewal.

If your last issued NBI clearance was BEFORE 2014, you will be applying as “new application” or like a first-time applicant. If your last NBI clearance is from 2014, you will need to indicate your old NBI number.

On the last field that requires your old NBI ID Number, what if you lost your old NBI clearance certificate, and thus, you don’t know your OLD NBI Number? What should you enter during registration? If this is your case, you will change your option from YES to NO. You will be processing like a first time applicant.

For first time applicant, click ‘proceed’ after indicating your birth dates. A longer form loads, enter all required details. This will be the enrollment form that you will fill-up:

For all applicants, make sure that you will enter an active email in the online form. Jot down or remember your password.

After clicking “I accept terms of service” click ‘sign-up’.

You will be directed to the member’s area. Once inside the member’s area click the button “Application” on the right side. Then proceed to fill the clearance form completely. Once done, saved.

The page will refresh and will show all the details that you have entered, you can now click on “APPLY FOR CLEARANCE” or click ‘Edit Information’ if there is an error.

After clicking the ‘Apply’ button, a window appears that requires you to nominate a PIN CODE. The pin code must be 6 digits only. This is newly added by NBI just this 2017 as another layer of security for your online account with this government agency.

After that, you can now proceed to the section where you will indicate the IDs that you will present. Click “I Agree”.

An “Important Reminder” will load, make sure that you will read it. On the next step, you will select  NBI branch and set appointment date and time (AM / PM). Open slots are shaded in blue.

Then, you will choose your payment method. Once done, you will be given a Reference Number or Reference Code after you select your payment method. Note down your reference number or code.

Go to your chosen payment option and pay. Your payment status will changed from ‘pending’ to ‘paid’ after you pay the NBI clearance fee.

Go to your chosen NBI branch on your appointment schedule for the biometrics, finger prints, and picture taking.

COMMON CONCERNS OF APPLICANTS

Here are a few common concerns and questions encountered by Filipinos who are trying to schedule an appointment to get NBI clearance:

NAME USES Ñ – If your name uses Ñ, on the form it will show as “N”, and it’s okay.

IDENTIFYING MARKS – In the field “Identifying marks” you can indicate “not applicable” if you don’t possess any identifying marks. What are samples of identifying marks?

Examples: mole on the forehead, dimple on right cheek, birthmark on left cheek, prominent scar on chin.

APPOINTMENT SCHEDULE – You will be asked to select your preferred NBI branch. After which, you will search and look for an open slot. Some dates are full, and so you have to find another date with an open slot for your appointment schedule.

I WAS NOT ABLE TO GO TO APPOINTMENT – What if you were not able to go to NBI on your appointment schedule? What will happen to your application? Puede ba pumunta sa ibang araw?

NBI recognizes that sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances that prevents the applicant from making it to his or her scheduled appointment date. To give leeway to these cases, the applicant will still be allowed to go to NBI branch within 15 days from the original appointment date for valid reasons, like medical emergency.

Example: Your NBI appointment date is August 8, but di mo mapuntahan dahil sa emergency. You can still go to NBI on or before August 23 to complete your clearance application.

If you fail to go to NBI within 15 days, your payment will be forfeited and you have to file for online appointment again.

INDICATE WHAT IDs YOU WILL BRING – During the online application process, you are required to enter what IDs you will present on your scheduled appointment date. At least 2 IDs are required. Indicate your chosen ID, example SSS UMID, Passport, Driver’s License etc.

On your day of appointment, do not forget to bring your IDs! NBI Personnel will ask for you to present it.

LIST OF ACCEPTABLE IDs – Check the identification cards that you can use when applying for NBI clearance – you can present primary or secondary IDs or combination. *One of the IDs you’ll present must have a picture in it.

Can you use barangay clearance alone? No. Can you use company ID as second ID? Yes.

STUDENTS NBI CLEARANCE – If you are still a bonafide student who wishes to apply for NBI clearance, school ID is accepted.

NBI CLEARANCE PIN CODE – The NBI system will require you to input a 6-digits security pin code. make sure you memorize this. This is another layer of security protection for your account.

MISSING ‘APPLY FOR CLEARANCE’ BUTTON – What if during the application process, you can’t see the buttons for “Apply for Clearance” or “Edit Information”, what should you do?

Though it rarely happens, some applicants do encounter this error wherein they can’t see a button to click for “apply for clearance” or “edit information”.  If this happens to you too, we suggest that you delete your browser’s cache and do the process again. Or try using another browser. Or try using another gadget with a different screen size. *It could be the online system of NBI conflicts with your gadget’s screen size, that’s why some parts of the screen are cut-off.

NBI CLEARANCE FEE– Make sure before you go to your chosen NBI branch that you have already paid the clearance fee.

ALERT!!! UPDATE ON NBI CLEARANCE as of January 2018

For all NBI Clearance applicant beginning January 2018, please note that NBI will now issue a “MULTI – PURPOSE CLEARANCE” to simplify its service. So you will no longer be allowed to indicate what purpose you are getting the clearance for, because now there is only one type and that is the NBI Multi – Purpose Clearance.

PAYMENT OPTION – Applicants are given these payment options:

• Online Banking
• Mobile Payments – Gcash
• Bayad Center
• MultiPay

REFERENCE NUMBER OR REGISTRATION CODE – When you get to the payment page, choose how you want to pay the NBI clearance fee. After confirming payment option, you will get a Reference number or registration code, do not lose this! You will need this when you go to the bank, or Bayad Center, or 7 Eleven outlets to make payment.

You will also need this when you go to NBI for your biometrics, pic and finger-print taking.

ONLINE PAYMENT VALIDATION – What if you’ve chosen to pay through online banking but you failed to validate your payment and now the system returns with “no match found”. What should you do?

In general, payment through online banking usually takes 3 days to validate. But, say, it’s already the 4^th day and your clearance fee payment still hasn’t been validated, iSensey recommends that you call the customer service hotline of the bank you used in paying online or if the payment gateway is DragonPay, call DragonPay hotline at (02) 655 6820. They will be able to sort out your payment issue.

QUICKEST WAY TO PAY – iSensey suggests paying in a Bayad Center branch, or a 7 Eleven outlet for faster payment validation and confirmation.

PRINT YOUR NBI CLEARANCE (not required) – The official procedure is that printing of the NBI clearance form is not required, you just need your reference number. But here in iSensey we still recommend that you download/screenshot and print your accomplished NBI Clearance form.

WHAT TO WEAR WHEN YOU GO TO NBI – Applicants are required to come in decent and proper attire on your scheduled appointment in NBI. No spaghetti-strap blouses, no shorts, no backless shirts, no flip flops. Tshirt, jeans, and shoes is okay.

CAN I AUTHORIZE SOMEONE ELSE TO GO TO NBI – No. Authorization is not allowed. This is because NBI will get your biometrics, picture, and fingerprints so the person applying for the clearance must be there in person, unless you are living or working abroad, there is a different procedure for this group.

WHEN CAN I GET THE CLEARANCE – If there is no issue with your records, you can get your NBI clearance on the same day, go to the “Printing” window. But if there is a “HIT”, there will be a delay as NBI needs to dig deep into your records to ascertain your status.

Now, if for some reason you can’t go back to the NBI office on the day you can get your clearance after clearing the “hit” record, you can request NBI to send your clearance “door to door” for a minimal fee.
