Having a hard time getting pregnant? Go for Infertility Workup.
Experts says that if you have been trying to conceive for at least a year but still can’t get pregnant, it’s recommended that you seek the help of an OB-GYNE.
There are Obstetricians – Gynecologists who specializes in Infertility, it’s best to seek these kind of OBs and not just any kind of OB, especially if you are already of advanced age, 35 years old and up.
iSensey will share the prices of infertility work-up lab tests as experienced by one of our team members. Please use the info only as guide. You will get the exact rates by checking directly at the hospital or laboratory of your choice.
We strongly recommend that the couple go for the OB consultation together.
By the way there are women who gets their period regularly every month but still turns out to have reproductive issues, for this reason seeking professional-medical help is recommended for those couples who are TTC for at least a year.
TTC = Trying to Conceive
GOING FOR INFERTILITY WORK-UP
The first cost is the Consultation Fee, typically a regular OB charges around P300 to P600 per consultation. But when it comes to Infertility Specialist OBs their consultation charges typically starts at P800 to P1,500, can be even higher. Consulting with them is more expensive due to the more intensive trainings that these reproductive health and infertility specialist OBs has to undergo.
Then you will be asked to undergo various lab tests. Different OBs and clinics have different infertility workup protocol. You may be asked to do more or less tests than what we have listed on this post.
The routine is usually for the female to first undergo Papsmear and TransVaginal Ultrasound or TVS. From therein, the OB will be able to inform you if you have normal ovaries, cervix, endometrium, and uterus, or if you have PCOS, Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, Myoma or Fibroids, Retroverted Uterus, and other reproductive anomalies.
Papsmear – usually starts at P500
Transvaginal Ultrasound – usually starts at P1,200 and up
Then your partner will be asked to undergo Semen Analysis. This is very important, please request / persuade your partner go for this test.
Semen Analysis – P1,500 in Repro Optima
Aside from papsmear and TVS, you may be asked to undergo the following blood tests:
AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone) to check for the level of ovarian reserves
FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone)
Estradiol
*AMH, FSH, and Estradiol blood tests must be done on Day 2 or 3 of your period.
These are the rates of these blood tests in Hi-Precision Cebu as of May 2019:
FSH – P700
Estradiol – P1,200
AMH – P5,305
Repro Optima in Cebu offers hormone assay blood test package for infertility work-up for P4,950, this already includes tests for FSH, LH, ESTRADIOL, TSH, PROLACTIN. Meanwhile, AMH test fee in Repro Optima is P5,250 while Progesterone Blood Tests rate is P2,100.
[ Note: If you are reading this and have underwent infertility hormone tests in other labs or hospital, please share the rates you paid so other women may have better idea on the price range of hormone tests. Thank you. ]
Checking for Blocked Tubes / Hydrosalpinx
Your Infertility Specialist OB may ask you to undergo Hysterosalpingogram or HSG to check if you have blockage on your fallopian tubes, if you have hydrosalpinx. If your two tubes are blocked, you won’t get pregnant naturally because the egg and sperm will never meet. The only solution to conceive at this instance is thru IVF. If only one tube is blocked then you still have a chance to get pregnant naturally.
iSensey will be sharing another post focus on typical IVF costs in the Philippines.
HSG procedure cost in Chong Hua Hospital Cebu is P18,000. But don’t worry because Philhealth covers HSG. Our team member didn’t shell-out any money for her HSG because the full amount was paid by Philhealth. Make sure you have Philhealth so you can save.
*Sadly, it turns out she have bilateral hydrosalpinx, both her fallopian tubes are blocked. After a week of knowing, she underwent major surgery Operative Laparoscopy Chromotubation Bilateral Salpingectomy, in lay-man’s term – her two tubes were removed. Now, she and her husband are preparing for IVF treatment. We are praying with her that their treatment will be successful and that God will bless them with a child thru IVF. Please help us pray. Thank you.
HSG is a special xray procedure wherein a fine catheter will be inserted into the endometrial cavity and then a contrast media or dye will be injected into it. Once the dye travel through your tubes and it spills-out into the pelvic cavity, it’s an indication that the fallopian tube is open. If the dye won’t spill-out, then the tube has adhesions or is completely blocked.
*Does HSG hurt so much? It depends on your pain tolerance. They say if you have blocked tubes, it’s painful. If your tubes shape and patency are normal then you may experience little pain only. Our team member relates that what she experienced was intense pain that’s like x4 of her normal 1st day cramps.
These are the other lab tests that the Repro-Immuno and Infertility Specialist OB of our team member requested of her. These tests were done in Hi Precision. The hormone blood tests AMH, FSH, Estradiol were done in Repro Optima.

There are others who have undergone infertility work-up who also chose to undergo further tests to check for auto-immune disorders like APAS, Natural Killer Cells, Blocking Antibodies, etc.

If you have PCOS, Endometriosis etc, there are protocols to address these issues which can help you to get pregnant.
