Unionbank of the Philippines has announced that the new EMV Chip-enabled Unionbank Debit cards are now available.
If you are a client of UnionBank Philippines and holder of their debit cards, make sure to update your card to the EMV Smart Chip-enabled version. If you will not update on or before December 1, 2017, you will no longer be able to use your debit cards (magnetized version, the old version), since these old debit cards will be DEACTIVATED by then.
Avoid the hassle, update your card to EMV chip-enabled as soon as possible.
What if it is not possible for you to update your old debit card to the new EMV chip card for whatever reason, can you do over the counter transaction? Yes, you can but there might be a fee. Please ask UnionBank directly if there are over the counter withdrawal charges or none.
You can still do internet banking or online banking, or use your Unionbank mobile app since these are account dependent, not card dependent. But you can no longer used your old card for online purchases, since the card’s Visa or Mastercard feature will be deactivated.
HOW TO GET THE NEW EMV CHIP-ENABLED UNIONBANK CARD?
The way to get the new EMV chip-enabled card from Unionbank varies depending on the type of card you currently have. These are the method to follow:
For Ewallet cards – get the new EMV card by visiting any branch of Unionbank.
For Platinum Debit cards – you need to coordinate with your Relationship Manager to get EMV chip-enabled card replacement for your old Platinum debit card.
For Epaycard or ePayroll cards – you need to coordinate with your Company HR. Your company hr officer will be the one who will process the request to change cards with Unionbank. Follow the HR instructions in getting the new EMV cards.
For EON card holders – you need to go to www.eonbankph.com/levelup to update your account. You will also need to upload a soft copy of your valid ID (1 Primary ID or 2 secondary IDs). You will receive a txt message with instruction on when you can claim your card.
Check here for list of Primary IDs / Secondary IDs.
When you get to their website, scroll down, until you get to the field where you are asked to enter your current EON Card Number like this one:
For those who just replaced their card last June, July, August etc but the card you received was still the magnetized version, unfortunately you still need to replace your card with the EMV chip-enabled version. *We are still trying to verify if there will be a fee to get the EMV smart-chip card for those who just replaced their debit cards or it’s free for them.
Filipino freelancers please update your cards asap to avoid future hassle in using your Unionbank cards. You also need to verify again in Paypal your new Unionbank EON EMV card if you will transfer funds using the DEBIT card facility. But if you will transfer fund using the BANK ACCOUNT method, no need to re-verify in Paypal, since your account number did not change, only your card number.
Per guideline the new UnionBank EMV Smart Chip Cards will be available 3 to 5 banking days after accomplishing the account update online. But there are some who shared that waiting time may be 2 weeks to 1 month. Hopefully, with this recent update by this banking institution, card replacement will become much faster.
If you have any other queries, you can contact the official UnionBank Customer Service Hotline at (02) 841 8600.
