BDO Kabayan Savings Account for OFWs – Opening Requirements

The BDO Kabayan Savings account is part of the BDO Asenso Kabayan program, a banking product tailored fit for our country’s new heroes, our Overseas Filipino Workers, our OFWs.

The aim of the BDO Asenso Kabayan Program is to provide our hardworking OFWs and their family-beneficiaries the means to manage their finances by making it easy for them to start saving and investing by opening a BDO Kabayan Savings Account.

BDO Kabayan Savings Account for OFW

BENEFITS OF BDO KABAYAN SAVINGS ACCOUNT

The good news for OFWs and families who relies on the remittance from a loved-one abroad is that this banking product from BDO does not require any maintaining balance*. You can withdraw all the money in your account if you need to without incurring any “below maintaining balance fee”, provided the account receive at least one remittance transaction every year.

You can choose to open a PHP or a USD denominated Kabayan Savings Account. For the peso account, opening deposit or initial deposit required is only P100. If you want to open a US Dollar Kabayan Savings Account, the minimum initial deposit is just 100 USD.

Now, if you are a Seaman or a Seafarer OFW who are employed by a POEA-accredited shipping company, you can open a BDO Kabayan Shipping Dollar account and use this to send your monthly allotment for your family. You only need $10 as initial deposit, 1 piece 1×1 ID picture, and your valid Seaman’s book to successfully open a Kabayan savings with BDO.

The BDO Kabayan Savings account comes with an ATM and passbook; the passbook is handy to have when it comes to monitoring all activities on your account.

REQUIREMENTS to APPLY FOR BDO KABAYAN SAVINGS

These are the account opening requirements for the Kabayan Savings Account in BDO:

The minimum initial deposit which is either Php 100 or USD 100.

  • 1 Valid ID with picture (preferably government issues like Driver’s License, SSS, UMID, Pag-ibig, PRC, Passport, etc.)

Hi Jeffrey, Philippine banking law requires personal appearance before bank officers in order to open a new account, so you can’t apply for the BDO Kabayan Savings online.

      Maraming Salamat

        October 22, 2017 at 8:37 pm

Hi Roque, based on what we know, the person who wants to open a personal individual bank account must show up personally and appear before the authorized banking personnel in order to open an account. This is to confirm and validate your identity as well as your signature.

We don’t know if there are exception to the rule, we suggest you contact BDO directlyy to know for sure.

BUT make sure you will remit AT LEAST ONCE every year to the account so you and your family will continue to enjoy the Kabayan Savings benefit of zero maintaining balance.

They don’t give me other option and I’m wondering why my friend got her Kabayan saving account without asking her contract like what they ask from me.

      November 3, 2016 at 12:36 pm

Hi Chona, some bank staff are strict or it could be they are implementing a new rule regarding Kabayan Savings account. Based on what is on BDO OFFICIAL WEBSITE, these are the listed requirements for this special type of account:
      BDO Kabayan Savings Account requirements

Do you have the OEC or OEC Exemption certificate? Maybe you can use that in lieu of the proof of employment contract.

Hi.. I am currently working in KSA. I have an Kabayan Savings Account since September 2015. At present I am planning to use this account to save for the future. Question: Are there any other ways that I can monitor the account aside from online banking( I failed to enroll since I can’t answer the questions precisely-they gave me another option and which is to provide valid ID’s enrollment form and passbook copy, I have them all but I think they are not accepting scanned copy )

    Thanks in advance

You can do online banking or phone banking. BDO has a toll free number you can call them to inquire on how to go about phone banking.

    • iSensey says

      March 6, 2017 at 12:02 pm

Hi Racquel, you are banking with BDO, safe ang pera mo sa bank nila.

Dun sa mga kwento sayo, remember na ang resibo puedeng ma-peke. the best way to monitor your bank account is to update the passbook regularly and/or enroll in bdo online para kahit anong oras puede mo icheck basta may internet connection ka.

iCheck mo yung ATM card mo, sa harap ba merong Mastercard Logo or Visa logo?

Chineck namin ang website ng BDO, it says the Kabayan Savings account comes with passbook AND ATM debit card, so, yes puede.

Good day sir/ma’am. I am currently working in Kuwait. I have bdo Kabayan savings account. But I did not do any remittance since I open it. As in the rules of the bdo Kabayan savings account, my account is automatically converted into regular arm/passbook account, my question is if I will do online and activate my account, do I need to pay the monthly charges since I did not met the maintaining balance required? From what month do I need to start paying the said charges if it is so. Thang you so much and more power.

    • iSensey says

      September 7, 2017 at 7:04 pm

Hi Donna, only BDO will be able to answer your query with 100% accuracy.
We think na once ma convert na yung account mo to reqular BDO account, di na sya puede maibalik as BDO kabayan unless you will go to your BDO branch and show your proof of employment abroad. We could be wrong in our assumption, so we strongly suggest that you call their international hotline to talk with a csr.

Salamat

    • iSensey says

      September 19, 2017 at 9:29 pm

Manila branches are equipped with such para khit valid ID lng at 100pesos meron ka eh, you can even open multiple kabayan accounts. I just hope mag upgrade na provincial branches kung wala pa silang camera.

So I’m just wondering why would they ask for proof of contract when my friends have successfully opened an account without providing proof of contract of their loved ones abroad?

Hi Jonalaine, there are some bank staff who follows rules to the t, some who are more lenient. If the branch is near, you can request your ate to send you an eCopy of her contract or her OEC (Overseas Employment Certificate); the branch may ask you to print this. Hope they’ll let you open an account asap.

Hindi po. Kahit anong amount puede deposit. Puede din hindi every month mag deposit. But make sure na ang balance ng account mo ay laging above 10k para hindi ka ma-charge ng ‘falling below maintaining balance.’
