Yep, a Philippine-based blogger who started blogging when he was 57 years old is now earning a steady income of… wait..wait..wait… not less than 100,000 pesos monthly! A far cry from his last corporate salary wherein he can only bring home net of around P25K, and that net pay can only come after rendering multiple overtimes.
I almost choke on the coffee I am drinking, and probably my companions too, when this soft-spoken tatay who doesn’t look like he knows how to turn-on a pc, let alone build an earning website on WordPress, when he shared just how much he is earning through Google Adsense advertisement.
Back Story
On rare times, I meet with kindred souls in the cyberworld – pinoy bloggers, in real life not online. 🙂 The usual place would be a coffee shop, hopefully one that comes with free wifi, lol. We discuss anything and everything, from the latest in blogging to the next big niche to tips on how to cook some kick-ass calamari to why you shouldn’t bring your pet to the next kiddie party. No rules, no plans, just sharing of stories among friends and colleagues.
Last meet-up, there were 2 new faces. The first one is a Youtuber in the tech/gaming niche; the other one, let’s call him TA (Tatay Amazing), because we were certainly amazed and inspired with the success he found in blogging and Google Adsense.
Now, understand that among us, you can’t just claim that you earned this much with your website without showing proof. Perhaps, because TA is still a blogging newbie (less than 2 years as a blogger) and excited to share, it didn’t take long to convinced him to show us the Adsense app on his tablet, which shows his earnings.
True enough, he is really earning well! More than well, it’s awesome at average of P100K per month from Adsense since 2017 started! Whoa! Halos one year lang and he reached that much GA earning!
Google Adsense earnings are in USD. You can withdraw the payment via Western Union or Direct Deposit to your bank account.
What will make you a success? No clear-cut formula. Perhaps blogging success is a result of smart work, grit, determination, publishing of quality articles after articles, going for continuous learning and applying the lessons, etc. Sometimes a good dose of luck is needed too.
Now, this is when yours truly puts on the charm. I hypnotized TA…err… I requested for a screenshot of his earnings so it can go with this blog post that you are reading now. At first TA resisted, but finally relented when we all chorus that this is to inspire would-be bloggers and new to website publishing to really pursue with seriousness writing and publishing online, because of this medium’s huge income potential. That even at an advance age (ayaw nya patawag na senior citizen) one can learn to blog and earn from it.
Ang kapalit? We will share 3 posts of his at his preferred schedule on our biggest Facebook fan page. Marunong na talaga sa exchange deal at social media savvy pa, aba! 😀 But his real name must not be revealed to prevent him from getting “new relatives” daw. Lol.
See for yourself how much this almost senior citizen na pinoy blogger earned from his website thru Adsense:
TA’s January 2017 Earnings from website blogging (Adsense)
TA’s February 2017 Earnings from website blogging (Adsense)
Pasensya na madami blurred sa figures, we can’t upload it without blurring as our promised to TA . But as you can see two of his sites abot na ng 1000 usd isang month; possible talaga mag-earn ng pareho or mas malakas pa.
We were teasing him that his story might go viral if he agrees to reveal his identity and that he might even be contacted by TV stations for an interview. “No, no, no” says our TA. So cencia na guys, we have to abide by his wishes hehe.
I tried to request if we can show the latest Adsense earnings – May and June 2017 – but he declined. It’s more than his usual, so we understand. Just show na lang daw yung nung nag first year blogging anniversary sya, so these screenshots are January and February 2017 Google Adsense earnings.
How many sites he maintains? 3 sites all pinoy target readers. A good mix of evergreen posts and timing-sensitive posts. What are the websites link? Sorry, not allowed to disclose. But the biggest earner is a DIY site – Home / Living.
- January 2017 – around $1,900++ or about Php 95,000++
- February 2007 – around $3,100++ or about Php 156,000++
He worked for almost half his life as a human resource officer, a totally different world from blogging. He learned about the opportunities online through an inaanak, who was actively campaigning for friends and family to try their hand in web publishing. He heeds the call, and now, we are here. 🙂
When asked what is his next blogging goal? He grinned and replied, ‘to earn enough that a bank would call him to explain why Google is sending him remittance money’. Now that’s the spirit! 😊
10 Advises to New Bloggers and Those Who Wants to Start
The most important part of this post is his advised and tips to those aspiring bloggers ( iSensey inserted some personal tips in italics )and it’s the following:
- Don’t be afraid to try something new.
In his case, it’s blogging.
- Don’t be intimidated because you can’t write good English. Just try. Practice writing. Read books, magazines, pamphlets to widen your vocabulary. But use very simple English words in your posts, your readers will appreciate it more.
If hirap talaga, mag-Taglish ka. Accepted na ang Filipino sa Adsense but still, it’s better if more words are written in the English language since there are more advertisers using English in the ads too.
3. Work with dedication and passion.
Go for regular article posting so your readers have something to look forward to each week. If kaya to post daily, go ahead as long as it’s a quality post. Don’t publish trash articles for the sake of “makadami”.
4. Research the niche you are interested in.
Observe the strategies of same-niche sites. Improve and build on them.
5. Don’t be ashamed to ask if you don’t know, especially the techie back office stuff.
TA has the helped of many blogger friends along the way.
Plus, listen to those who have more experience than you. You may be older in age, but younger in terms of know-how and experience in web publishing. This is where finding a mentor comes in, or a support group who shares similar interest and passion. They can help you cut the learning curve significantly. Network too with a good crowd (kaya pala nasa meet-up sya namin? haha).
6. Keep in mind that not every month the website earning performance is stellar. There are months, weeks, and days na mahina talaga kahit galing ka sa napaka – high na stats the previous day/week/month. Don’t be discouraged easily on those slow days. Instead, continue to serve your readers useful posts, ang kita babalik. “Wag yung walang kapararakan (na post)”.
Ano daw?! Kapararakan = benefit / utility / advantage. Ah okay, now we know! Comic moment, lol.
- Give back, share your blessings. But don’t forget to save for the rainy days.
- Reward yourself for doing a good job.
- Try to inspire and encourage other interested Filipinos to also explore website writing and blogging.
- Magpahinga din, wag ubosin lahat ng oras sa blog. (iSensey lang na tip to haha)
One of the proudest moments that blogging brought him was when one of his kids remarked “Marunong ka palang magsulat Pa” and he just smiled. 😉
TA, hope this post makes you smile too. Forgive the post title, idinikdik talaga na 50+ years old hahaha. Salamat ulit for being the inspiration for this post. Keep inspiring everyone! See you around – online / offline !
