Just before ex-President Benigno Aquino left his office, he signed the Centenarians Act of 2016 last June 23, 2016. This new law gives cash gift of 100,000 Pesos to Filipinos who have reached 100 years old.
Aside from the birthday cash gift, all Filipinos who reach the age of 100 will receive a letter of felicitation from the current President of the Philippines. This law is applicable for Filipinos who resides in the country and Filipinos who resides abroad.
These centenarians will also be awarded with a plaque of recognition and additional cash gift from their respective city or municipal governments during the National Respect for Centenarians Day or the Elderly Filipino Week.
Yesterday September 26, 2016 the Implementing Rules and Regulations for Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016 has been signed.
The government agencies mandated to implement this law are the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DOH), and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas.
